The Chamber originally made me laugh-- Grisham is a very able writer, but it seemed another The bookL
The Firm,
The Client,
The Juror, and so on. I picked it up and started perusing its pages. It is a delight to read, and full of twists and (other) unexpected happenings.
Adam Hall, born a Cayhall, is an attorney with Kravitz & Bane. He travels from Chicago, to Memphis to handle the case, pro bono (for free), of a Mr. Sam Cayhall. Mr. Sam Cayhall is in prison, on Death Row, for planting a bomb in the offices of a 'dirty Jre' that went off, killing the intended target's two sons. Actually, the bomb was meant to kill no one. This was a tragic accident the Ku Klux Klan both championed and decried the horrors of.
If you are weak in the stomach at handling racials slurs, don't read this book. Otherwise, turn the pages with delight as you count down Sam Cayhall's execurion, execution for Double Murder.
