Book Review by: Lenwel

Author : Peter Cheyney
Published: November 06, 2008
Peter Cheyney' novels never seem to peak and at first I found this almost disappointing but then I wonder if it is a deliberate strategy on the part of the author to keep you reading more of his work and he did quite a lot. They have quite a lot of action but seem lyrical in the way the story goes on, being profound one minute then going back over the facts for a few pages the next ,as if it was a song repeating the chorus. It also gives a quick outline of British behavior and attitudes in those days as the MI5 intelligence men race down to the west country and back to London and then to the coast at Sussex when the double agent is escaping by boat from Rye.The feel of the jazz clubs and glamorous women and early James Bond. A quick spell in the country and then back to London and a rendavous at The Cockatiel night club before the midnight dash for the continent. Then most of the bad guys get it and the beautiful women either go off to Paris or settle down in the home counties.
